How to Activate SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services

Written by Michael Hopley-Ash | Oct 2, 2026, 1:51:08 PM

SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services provide SOLIDWORKS Design users with access to additional cloud-based tools that boost design team productivity.

Once you’ve purchased SOLIDWORKS Design with Cloud Services, simply follow this guide to activate them and gain access to:

  • Collaboration & Communities

  • Project Management Tools

  • Cloud Storage

  • AI Virtual Companions

The following guide is designed to help administrators activate their SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services, access the 3DEXPERIENCE platform for the first time, and connect to SOLIDWORKS Design.

Glossary and key

Let’s cut through some of the jargon. Here are a few of the key terms you’ll become familiar with as you explore the 3DEXPERIENCE platform:

Compass – The blue, circular icon in the top left corner of the browser window and the symbol for the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. This is the main navigation for the platform.

Tenant – A secure, cloud-based environment represented by an R number e.g. r1132100503382 is a tenant hosting the public cloud environment.

Role – A collection of software applications that is individually licensed. Roles can be assigned and unassigned to users by Platform Administrators, and additional roles may be purchased as business needs evolve.

Collaborative Space – A folder with controlled access permissions hosted on a cloud server that stores CAD files and associated data. Multiple collaborative spaces may be created, and permissions are controlled by Platform Administrators.

Dashboard – A configurable workspace. Both admins and users can create and share dashboards that collate apps and widgets across a series of tabs for a variety of purposes.

1. Choose your platform administrator

Before you get started, decide who will be your internal 3DEXPERIENCE Platform Administrator. The first user to accept the invitation becomes the admin of your 3DEXPERIENCE tenant.

Although this can be changed, we recommend that businesses have a proactive conversation about who will be the Platform Administrator, as the admin will gain responsibilities such as sharing invitations to colleagues to access collaborative spaces, sharing roles, and the overall configuration of your 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

2. Accept the invitation

Once you have placed your order and chosen your Platform Administrator, the next step to activating your license is to accept the invitation.

Look out for an email from Dassault Systèmes saying your platform is ready. This will be from the email address ‘noreply@3dexperience.3ds.com’.

IMPORTANT: This is a one-time use link. If you have received the email and are not the nominated administrator for your company’s 3DEXPERIENCE platform, please forward the email to your chosen Platform Administrator.

The nominated administrator for your company’s 3DEXPERIENCE platform must then click the button to ‘Launch your 3DEXPERIENCE platform’.

The first person to click the link and log in will be the designated administrator. This can be reassigned in future using the ‘Replace Me’ function in the Members Control Center application.

3. Log in as administrator

Once you have clicked the link to accept the invitation, you will be redirected to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform login page.

Log in with your 3DEXPERIENCE ID or create a new account with your company email if this is your first time using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

After logging into your account, you’ll be asked to confirm you are the administrator.

By confirming, you will take on the role of Platform Administrator and will be the main point of contact for your business’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform and SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services operations.

Please read through the customer licensing and online service agreement (CLOSA) that appears and download a copy for your records.

Accept the terms and conditions when you are ready to complete the activation and access your 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

4. Invite users to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform

As the new Platform Administrator, you have control over who can access your platform and collaborate with your teams.

If you have multiple licenses, get started by inviting your colleagues or users who will require access to SOLIDWORKS Cloud Services functionality and your 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

When you first access the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, you’ll be viewing the Platform Management dashboard. This is made up of several tabs to help you administer the platform and manage members.

TOP TIP - Bookmark this URL in your browser for easy access to your platform management tools.

To add new users, head to the Members tab of the Platform Management dashboard and click on the Invite Members button to open the ‘Invite Members’ dialog box.

Enter the email addresses of users you wish to invite to the platform and decide whether they should be a Member, Administrator, or an External collaborator before setting their user rights.

On the Roles tab, you can assign users the roles they require for their work. Search for individual roles and click the appropriate tick boxes to assign licenses before they log in.

For SOLIDWORKS users, ensure the ‘Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS’ role is checked and assigned.

On confirmation, every user will be sent an email invitation to join your 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

To accept the invitation, they simply have to click the link in their email to ‘Launch your 3DEXPERIENCE platform’ and join you on the platform.

5. Install the Design with SOLIDWORKS application

Now that your 3DEXPERIENCE platform is activated and your team has been invited, SOLIDWORKS users should download and install the Design with SOLIDWORKS application to connect SOLIDWORKS Design with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

This application is included with the Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS role and acts as the connector between the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and the desktop SOLIDWORKS Design application.

Let’s walk through the installation process that must be done by each user assigned the Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS role:

  1. Log in to your 3DEXPERIENCE platform and access the Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS cockpit from the 3DDashboard app.
  2. Locate the Design with SOLIDWORKS app on the Welcome tab of the dashboard and click ‘Install’.
  3. If this is the first time you are installing an app from the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, then you will see a dialog which instructs you to download and install the 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher first - this manages your downloads and allows apps to be launched from a web browser.
  4. Follow the wizard to install the 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher. After the installation completes, return to your web browser and click the Continue button to launch the Design with SOLIDWORKS installer.
  5. Click through the installer to download and install the Design with SOLIDWORKS application.
  6. On the second screen, you may wish to check your environment is compatible with the 3DEXPERIENCE with the Cloud Eligibility tool.

This is a helpful diagnostic tool if you encounter any issues while trying to install any applications from the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

TOP TIP - Firewalls can sometimes prevent these applications from downloading, so double check with your IT team that there are no restrictions on download links from domains ending in:
    •    *.3ds.com
    •    *.outscale.com
    •    *.amazonaws.com
  7. Continue with the installation when you are ready. Choose the installation location and the root for your Cloud Storage vault. The default settings should suffice, but you may modify these as required.
  8. Continue through the installation, select your preferred language and click 'Install' to begin the installation. Close the installation dialog when complete.

Once installed, SOLIDWORKS users will be able to take advantage of the Cloud Services to manage their CAD data, use share & markup tools, and access AI virtual companions from within the SOLIDWORKS task pane.

IMPORTANT - Installing the Design with SOLIDWORKS application does not install the SOLIDWORKS Design 3D CAD package. SOLIDWORKS Design must be installed separately, and installation methods vary depending on your purchased license.
